Conservation voltage reduction (CVR) is a system to provide customer voltages in the lower end of the acceptable range, with the goal of achieving energy and demand reductions for customers. CVR is used by utilities to reduce voltage, but remains within the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) standard range. CVR helps reduce energy usage during times of peak demand, when the most energy is needed in the system, without customer impact. The result is that it reduces strain on the electric grid and energy usage during peak events, such as during a very cold morning or a very hot afternoon.
A kilowatt-hour, otherwise known as a kWh, is a way to measure how much energy you’re using. A kWh equals the amount of energy you would use by keeping a 1,000 watt appliance running for one hour.
