Transportation and Mobility
A sustainable transportation system is accessible, affordable, operates efficiently and offers a variety of easily
navigable transportation modes which support a vibrant and successful community.
Metra and Pace Ridership
There are many public transportation options available to assist people in getting around Naperville. Additionally, options are available to commute between Naperville and Chicago as well as other suburbs.
Metra serves the City of Naperville from two commuter rail stations: the Naperville Metra Station, located at 105 E. 4th Ave., and the Route 59 Metra Station, located at 1090 N. Route 59, Aurora. Metra service is provided via the BNSF railway line that extends from Aurora to Chicago’s Union Station.
Pace is the premier suburban transit provider, quickly moving people to work and school safely and efficiently. Pace provides rush hour service to and from both train stations and other areas of the City.
Sidewalk Program Continues to Connect Community
Each year, the City of Naperville installs sidewalks to
address gaps in the sidewalk system. Priority is given to locations near
schools, parks and other pedestrian destinations. The length of sidewalk
installation in any given year corresponds directly to annual budget
allocations.
Electric Vehicle Charging Stations
The City of Naperville offers two dual port electric vehicle charging stations - one located in the Van Buren Surface Lot and the other on the first level of the Van Buren Parking Deck. Vehicles are permitted to charge for up to three hours.
All charging stations are Level 2 stations employing 220-240 volts, which necessitates a shorter charging time than a wall-plug residential unit.
NOTE: Maintenance issues resulted in
Naperville's electric vehicle charging stations being shut off in October 2018.
Plans to replace the stations are underway.
